There's nothing worse than landing on someone's instagram feed and seeing all all promotional material, or NO promotional material (especially if the account belongs to a business), am I right?
There a not-so-delicate balance to employ to get the best possible success using instagram for your business! Here are some excellent ways to get started:
I am often asked, 'what should I be posting?', 'how often do I share promo posts?', or 'do I need a separate account to share about my business?'. I will share my opinion on these as we move through this article.
The question I get asked most often is "do I need to set up a separate account for my business?" My answer? It depends.
Things to consider:
1. Are you selling a physical product, digital product, or service?
If you are selling a physical product under that product's brand, and plan to have professional product photography done, models, affiliates and more, I would recommend creating a separate account.
If you are selling a service that is conducted by you, I recommend leveraging your personal profile and mix in business-related posts. Why? Because people connect to people, not services. Even if you have an incredible, life-changing service, your audience still wants to know who's behind it, why you do it, and more about your authentic beliefs and lifestyle. Chances are, you've already been sharing that kind of stuff on your personal page, so why redo all that work?
Common objection: "I'm worried my friends and family will be annoyed or upset if I start sharing business-related content on my personal account." My response? WHO CARES! This isn't about them. And honestly? If your friends and family aren't supportive of your business, they can choose to unfollow you.
2. Will someone else be posting on your behalf?
If you plan to hire a VA (Virtual Assistant), a social media manager or agency to run your account, I absolutely recommend creating a separate profile for your business. Keep in mind though, a successful brand builds loyal fans by sharing authentically, so make sure whoever is posting for you includes personal stories and genuine content outside of just promoting your product or service.
